About The Project

MTWgroup, as part of a dynamic and winning team in a design-build competition, joined forces with the architect and general contractor to breathe new life into the new campus entrance that leads to the new Winn Center at Consumnes River College. This pivotal project aimed to transform the campus gateway into a vibrant and engaging entry point that would resonate with both students and visitors.

The challenge was significant: the campus sat atop a raised plinth, creating a dramatic vertical shift that needed to be addressed. MTWgroup envisioned a grand arrival experience, centering around a sweeping staircase that invited people into the heart of the campus. To ensure accessibility and inclusivity, the design also featured two gracefully sloped arching ramps, meticulously planned to comply with ADA requirements and adorned with a tapestry of plantings and flowers that promise a burst of color throughout the seasons.

But the transformation didn’t stop there. MTWgroup integrated a rain catchment system, added a dry-river bed for visual and environmental appeal, and crafted an outdoor stage for student performances. Each element was thoughtfully chosen to harmonize with the overall design, creating not just an entrance, but a welcoming and functional space that enhances the college experience. This holistic approach to landscape design not only framed the entrance with elegance but also infused the campus with a blend of practicality and beauty, elevating the environment and enriching the student and faculty's daily experiences.
